Making an Ellen Ripley Costume from Alien 1979

Hey guys,

I’ve been working on an Ellen Ripley costume from Alien, specifically the flight suit, and wanted to post the first mockup to get some feedback from you guys.

These are some pictures from the first mockup. It’s not the finished suit yet, so I’m still figuring out a few things before moving ahead.

What do you guys think so far? Is there anything you would change about the flight suit? Also, if you’ve ever worked on an Ellen Ripley costume before, I’d especially like to hear your thoughts.

Making an Ellen Ripley Costume from Alien 1979

Hey guys,

I’ve been working on an Ellen Ripley costume from Alien, specifically the flight suit, and wanted to post the first mockup to get some feedback from you guys.

These are some pictures from the first mockup. It’s not the finished suit yet, so I’m still figuring out a few things before moving ahead.

What do you guys think so far? Is there anything you would change about the flight suit? Also, if you’ve ever worked on an Ellen Ripley costume before, I’d especially like to hear your thoughts.

Honestly, this is looking great for a first mockup. As an Alien fan, I really like how close you’ve kept it to the original Ripley look. Curious to see how the details come together in the final version. Nice work!

Hey,

I’m not completely convinced by the current mock-up. The overall proportions and fit don’t quite capture the look of Ripley’s original 1979 costume, and the back lacing feels a little too prominent to me.

That said, since this is still a mock-up and not the final version, I’d be interested to…

Really like the effort and craftsmanship that’s gone into this mock-up.
There’s definitely a lot of potential here, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops.

Yeah, I agree with Robert. It doesn’t quite match the look of the real Ripley jumpsuit, but as Liza mentioned, this is just a mockup. I hope you work on the actual costume.

There will be patches on the jumpsuit, right?

Yes, Jasmine, there will be patches attached to the jumpsuit. I’ve already gotten the patches from somewhere; we were just getting the details right on the patches.

We’ve completed the suit, and the patches are in the final stage. As soon as we receive them, I’ll attach them to the jumpsuit and share…

This is actually amazing! The details are impeccable. It looks like it came straight from the set of the movie.

Don’t you have an elastic band around the waist to make it fit better? Other than that, the recreation itself is pretty good.

I love the suit, but don’t you think the sleeve patch is way too big?
