I was wondering, what do you guys look for when buying or making a movie replica?
For me, the small details seem to make a big difference like stitching, materials, patches, zippers, colors, etc.

For me, it’s everything. You can’t get one thing wrong and call it a replica. A replica means an exact copy, so everything needs to be right.

For me it’s when you look at it and instantly recognize the exact version from the movie. Not just “oh, that looks like the character,” but “that’s that jacket/costume.” The little details usually make that difference.
I’d say accuracy to the original. I don’t think dressing up as a normal person in a normal costume is really my vibe. 😂
My test would be pretty simple: put the replica next to a paused frame from the movie and stop looking at it as a costume. If I start wondering whether I’m looking at the actual production piece, that’s a good sign.

I’d say the replica needs to have the same “visual personality” as the original. Two jackets can have the same measurements and color, but if one has the wrong texture, structure, or way of hanging, it won’t feel like the same costume.
For me, it’s the materials. You can copy the design perfectly, but if the fabric feels completely different from the original, it still doesn’t feel screen-accurate.
I definitely look for the right color or shade, that’s something I can’t go wrong with. And sometimes the pattern too. I mean, if a costume has a specific pattern, I want the costume maker to replicate it very accurately.
